Have you ever wanted to start a fitness journey but you had no idea where or how to start?
When it comes to losing weight, there’s no shortage of advice out there on the internet.
In fact, there are so many weight loss programs to choose from it can be helluva confusing knowing which one is right for you.
It’s no wonder that most of us feel overwhelmed by the thought of improving our health.
I mean, trying to pick the right fitness plan can feel a bit like trying to pick winning lotto numbers- there’s so many good options, but it’s anyone’s guess to which one is going to land you the jackpot…
And it’s because of this overwhelm that many of us dive headfirst into the weight loss process WITHOUT putting a proper plan in place.
While it’s a great thing that you’re taking action to improve your health, the truth is that hasty and abrupt changes like this don’t always work to our advantage.
You see, when the actions you take are scattered and unstructured, your fitness results tend to fall flat. And without results, most us simply don’t have enough motivation to continue our health + fitness journey- so we give up.
That’s why in this blog post, I’m sharing with you 3 crucial elements that your weight loss plan needs in order to be most successful.
When it comes to weight loss, most women worry about whether they are eating the ‘right‘ foods and completing the ‘right‘ workouts.
We tend to type things into that Google Search Bar like:
- What are the best fat-burning foods?
- What foods will boost my metabolism?
- What exercises burn the most calories?
- What workouts will help me lose weight fast?
We question WHAT we should be doing, without much thought as to HOW we should be doing it.
And that’s our first mistake. You see, weight loss is a process- not an event.
What I mean by this is that we don’t suddenly drop 10 or 20 pounds overnight. Instead, we lose weight over time as the result of activities that we perform on a consistent basis.
So when it comes to fitnesss, the most important question that we must ask ourselves isn’t ‘what must I do to lose weight?, but instead it’s ‘how do I do these things with enough consistency that I actually reach my fitness goal?‘.
Do you see the difference?
The difference is subtle, but it’s important because we don’t all lose weight the same way.
There is no one-size fits all approach to weight loss. The way that a busy stay-at-home mom loses weight will likely differ from how a hard-working college student does.
Now a fitness plan doesn’t have to be fancy to be effective, but it does need to be strategic- and that’s exactly what I’m going to share with you today in this blog post!
Step 1 to a Better Weight Loss Plan: Mindset Matters
First, your plan needs a method to put you in the right mindset- whether you realize it or not, your mindset is at the very core of every decision you make in your life.
You see, no single action of yours comes without a thought or belief behind it.
Simply put, if you don’t believe something is possible for you, taking the action required to reach your goals will feel like an uphill battle.
Believing in yourself may sound minor – but that’s only because you underestimate the power which your belief system has on your life.
You see, beliefs are literally the filters for how you perceive the world. When you believe weight loss to be complex + complicated- Guess what?! IT IS…
Beliefs are hard-wired in our subconscious.
The subconscious mind is not critical or judgmental- it does not analyze the information we feed it. It simply gathers data + then acts according to the filters + programming we have set for ourselves.

So when we tell ourselves “I’ll never be successful at losing weight“- our subconscious mind holds that as fact. Any information that contradicts that belief is filtered out of our mind- never reaching conscious thought.
What’s more, when you decide to take action that goes against your current beliefs, your mind goes ‘WAIT A MINUTE’ … ‘THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING…’
Unbeknownst to you, you begin to self-sabotage yourself so that you can stay aligned with your beliefs. That’s why, you quite literally ‘Never succeed at losing weight‘.
If you are serious about reaching your fitness goals- you HAVE to believe in yourself first.
Get the mind right + the body will follow.
Step 2 to a Better Weight Loss Plan: the Right Kind of Fitness Goal
Secondly your fitness plan needs a proper goal- a goal that you’re not only happy to strive for but one that enhances your motivation to make your new + improved healthy habits stick.
If you’re like most women, you have no problem listing everything you hate about your body:
- the cellulite on the back of your legs
- the way your under arms jiggle when you wave your arm
- how your stomach rolls become increasingly visible as you sit down…
But if I were to ask you what you’d like instead– few would have an answer.
Truthfully, most of us are of the mindset of ‘who the hell cares where I’m going as long as I’m not where I’m at now?!‘
We believe that as long as we work hard- the results will take care of themselves…
However, this sort of thinking does not serve you!
You need the ‘right‘ fitness goal to get you to your dreams- for goals are what give you the long-term vision that ultimately helps guide your actions in the short term.
That in itself is powerful.

It’s motivation for you to continue on your journey when you’d otherwise throw in the towel.
Fitness goals, in particular, propel you forward + more importantly, keep you from feeling stuck in that perpetual cycle of dieting.
When you set a goal- you are making the decision to move forward in your life, to step into a better, more improved version of your bad-ass self!
Step 3 to a Better Weight Loss Plan: Strategy
And last but not least your fitness plan needs to include actions that ultimately support your end goal and that are held in place by a strategy that ensures your new healthy lifestyle is lasting and permanent.
You see, when you hate the process, you can’t wait for the results to show up because you want to get there you want to stop everything that you’ve been doing
But when you fall in love with the weight loss process, when it works for your busy life, when it actually enhances what you’re already doing rather than deter from it that’s when you know you’re on to something.
Strategy is what brings your fitness goals to life.
Strategy is what makes everything you want to achieve possible
Strategy is the mechansim that actually delivers your results
It’s what aligns your actions so that you reach the bigger vision you have for yourself
With the right strategy you can actually exit the diet roller coaster; you can stop spinning your wheels feeling frustrated by actions that don’t work; most importantly you can stop wasting your time on things that aren’t going to take you closer to your goals.
These are all critical components of a fitness plan. When you skip over any of these items, problems develope.
For example, without a proper goal, your fitness journey lacks direction. it’s unclear whether the actions you decide to take support where you want to end up . And when your actions don’t match up to your intentions- the results get muddled.
And when the results don’t show up like you want- you’re more likely to throw in the towel altogether.
But when you have a good plan in play, you gain the peace of mind of knowing that the results are coming. You stress less over the process and dare I say- you actually enjoy the fitness journey that you are on.
I just want to wrap up this blog post by saying that it doesn’t matter how many times you’ve tried and failed to lose weight before- no matter your history, weight loss is entirely possible for you, my friend!
