If I’m being honest- I’m not the type of person that gets sentimental when a new year rolls around…

It’s not that I don’t enjoy reminiscing on the memories of the past year- it’s just that my Type A personality would much rather focus on the clean slate that lay ahead of me than anything else.

But, for me, this year was different.

You see, a friend challenged me to reflect on the past year by writing down everything that I had accomplished (big or small) during those 365 days.

And I must admit that this exercise was eye-opening (to say the least!).

When I sat down and reflected on ALL that had happened this last year, I realize how much changes in a year…

…which felt ironic to me because so often, I can’t help but feel like time is just passing me by.

At times, I feel stuck- as though I’m not quite moving the needle forward when it comes to the dreams and goals that I have set for myself.

I’m sure you’ve experienced a similiar feeling in your own life.

We often get so caught up in the busyness of life + we prioritize ‘doing’ that we never take time to celebrate how far we’ve come.

But only when you step back and really think about it, does it hit you: You’re a whole new person right now than you were this time last year.

Now I won’t say that this past year was all sparkles and rainbows. It wasn’t.

While I enjoyed many blesssings beyond my wildest imagination, I also experienced a number of setbacks and unexpected curveballs.

But I’m here- standing on the other side of it all- feeling stronger and more capable than ever thanks to one personal growth tool that helped me navigate these tricky seasons of life.

Any guesses as to what ‘tool’ I credit with being the best personal growth tool there is?

Believe it or not- my favorite personal growth tool is none other than my library card.

You see, the simple act of reading just ten pages a day has transformed the way I live my life.

The truth is, reading has opened my eyes to new possibilities and it’s equipped me with the knowledge I need to feel better prepared to deal with whatever circumstances life throws at me.

And so, in this blog post, I’m sharing with you the Top 5 Books that Have Impacted My Life and that have improved the way I act and/or think on a daily basis.

Here it is, friends! It’s taken a lot of work to narrow this list down to just five books.

Truth be told- I love reading + there are a lot of books that I credit for shaping me into the woman that I am today…

But with that being said, the 5 books that I’m sharing below have had the greatest impact on keeping me inspired, motivated + willing to trudge through most any hardship.

5 Life-Changing Books You NEED to Read!

1. It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way: Finding Unexpected Strength When Disappointments Leave You Shattered by Lysa TerKeurst

I can’t give this book enough praise! I first happened upon it when I was going through a difficult period in my life.

I was in a season where I was very sad. I felt hurt. And I was truly at a point where my relationship with God was very strained.

This book gave me new perspective and it reaffirmed how much I needed to go through those tough seasons of grief in order to reach the other side.

After reading this book, I am just so in awe of the way that God works. I’m amazed in the way that everything that I thought was wrong for life turn into be such a big blessing. It truly took me reading this book to finally come to grips with all of that!

I’ve read this book twice already + will continue to re-read it as more of life’s disappointments surface.

2. The Slight Edge: Turning Simple Disciplines into Massive Success and Happiness by Jeff Olson

I’ve included this book on several past book recommendation lists, and for good reason! It’s that good!

For me, this was the first book that opened my eyes to all the possibility in front of me. This was the book that helped me see past the excuses that I was feeding myself.

I used to think that big success meant that you had to sacrifice a lot. I thought achieving success took lots of money, lots of time. And quite frankly, this is why I was convinced that great success wasn’t something within my reach- but this book changed all of that!

If you have big goals for your life, do yourself a favor + read this book!

3. Own Your Everyday: Overcome the Pressure to Prove and Show Up for What You Were Made to Do by Jordan Lee Dooley

When it comes to personal growth, there are a lot of books out there that will help you reach whatever goals you have for yourself. But there’s not that many books that teach you how to do that AND how to still enjoy the now, the present moment.

What I love most about this book is that it teaches you how to live a life of purpose right where you’re at. I think it’s such a great perspective to not just live life for the milestones but rather to enjoy life between the milestones.

This is a definite must-read for any woman feeling the pressure to perform or achieve in a certain way.

4. Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear

I’m so thankful that I came across this book on the endcap while browsing my local bookstore.

For starters, I love how great of a storyteller James Clear is. The personal stories he shares within the book so beautifully coinicided with the framework he offers on how to change your life with simple habits.

But what really stuck with me was the idea of how change that seems small + unimportant in the beginning can transform into remarkable results.

Here’s the thing, we are all capable of achieving massive success! We just have to learn to stick with the small things long enough for those results to show up- this book will tell you how to just that!

5. Free to Focus: A Total Productivity System to Achieve More by Doing Less by Michael Hyatt

Every year I seem to become more and more aware that time is not a renewable resource.

Knowing that I can never get back more time has really taught me to value the time that I do have.

In an attempt to learn how to spend my time more wisely, I reached for this book by Michael Hyatt. And I gotta say, I was blown away!

This book isn’t just another book filled with random productivity hacks that produce only so-so results. What this book is is an entire system you can use to free up more time in your life and prioritize what matters most to you!

I loved how quick of a read it was + how easy it was to apply the tactics I learned into my own life. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels like they are always lost for time!

There you have it! 5 books that can help you bring positive change into your own life. It is my hope that these books inspire + motivate you to pursue the life of your dreams.

Let me know in the comments below what books have made it on to your reading-list this year.

As always, here to support YOU!
