It’s one thing to know that you should drink more water- but it’s another thing entirely to actually follow-through with that action.

You probably know the struggle…

You have good intentions to increase your water intake each day- Whether you’re in the car or out shopping, you make sure to always keep a bottled water close-by; and at work, your favorite water bottle religiously sits on your desk- making it easy to grab a refill when necessary.

The trouble is that you’re often tempted to swap that boring water for a more exciting choice- iced coffee, diet soda, fruit juices- anything with a bit of flavor to keep your taste buds tingling with satisfaction.

Am I right?

You’re not alone, friend. Sticking to plain ole water can be a hard habit to keep, but don’t give up just yet. The benefits of drinking water are plentiful!

You see, research shows that staying hydrated has its health advantages:

  • Increases energy and relieves fatigue.
  • Promotes weight loss
  • Flushes out toxins from the body
  • Improves skin’s complexion
  • Helps maintain regularity
  • Gives your immune system a boost!
  • Natural headache remedy
  • Not to mention, it saves you money! (because, hello? water is free!)

But what do you drink when you’re in need of a more exciting option?

Before you grab for a sugar + calorie-filled alternative, try the 6 tried-and-true methods that I’m sharing below to add some excitement back into your thirst-quenching routine!

6 Ways to Drink More Water for Better Health

Step 1 to Increase Your Water Intake: Upgrade your Tap Water

If you can’t shake the slight aftertaste that tap water sometimes leaves behind, brighten the taste of plain water by attaching a filter to your faucet or use a pitcher with a filter.

It’s a simple + cost-effective way (especially when you consider how much money you save from buying bottled water!) to savor a crisp + refreshing glass of H2O!

Step 2 to Increase Your Water Intake: Add a Little Fizz

Grab a bottle of sparkling water for the bubbly feeling of a soft drink without the calories. It’s a great sugar-free alternative that packs a bit of flavor!

The sparkling water trend is really catching on as of late and there’s sure to be a flavor combination that suites your taste. My current obsession is Cherry Limeade Sparkling Water!

Step 3 to Increase Your Water Intake: Make it a Brew

Swap that water beverage for your favorite brew instead! Make your own iced tea at home using tea bags or loose leaves. Either way the flavor possibilities are endless.

This is another great option that is big on flavor + lite on calories!

Step 4 to Increase Your Water Intake: Add a bit of Flavoring

Add flavor fast with easy on-the-go packets such as True Lemon or Crystal Light. Just be sure you choose the unsweetened variety!

Or give calorie-free BCAA’s a try! – They mix just as easily as those flavor packets but with the added benefit of helping you enhance your progress in the gym. My favorite flavor is Lemonade and I share an easy way to use them to create Sparkling Strawberry-Lemonade Popsicles, here!

Step 5 to Increase Your Water Intake: Make it Fruity

Fruit-Infused Waters not only taste great but they look a-mazing too! You can DIY and make your own fruit infused waters using either a full size infuser pitcher or a portable and personal fruit-infuser water bottle.

Try flavors such as Strawberry + Kiwi, Lemon + Cucumber, or really mix it up and add fresh mint or basil!

Step 6 to Increase Your Water Intake: Make it Filling

Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box. Just because you usually enjoy your favorite soup out of a bowl, doesn’t mean that you can’t sip it from a thermos!

In cooler months, consider swapping your usual drink for a vegetable or chicken broth. Add some veggies for even more nutrients or a bit of chicken for some protein! You’ll stay hydrated, plus you’re immune system will thank you- what’s not to love about this alternative?

Increasing your water intake doesn’t have to be complicated! And in a few simple steps you can be back to enjoying your daily drink.
